You Got Soul and Your a Soldier

I have to say, I am so proud to be a part of a country that has the longest living Constitution on Earth. These things can be because we have and had brave men and women who sacrificed time, health, relationships, personality, and life to give citizens they knew and didn’t know our freedoms. Today is Veteran’s Day and I salute you for doing the dirty work to ensure our freedom; the fallen, the ones who have already served, and the ones on the current frontline. I don’t think one day is enough to thank them; we can all do more to ensure they have homes, food, heat, and other necessities but that is an individual decision to go and do more. With that thank you, I am going to talk about a different kind of soldier, old lady soldiers, children soldiers, husband and wife soldiers, single soldiers, family soldiers; they are God’s soldiers.
I think one of the biggest battlefields Christians encounter no one else sees, because it is behind the front door and in front of the back door. Wives trying to win husbands, parents trying to win children, daughters trying to win fathers, and sons trying to win mothers; every Christian knows someone who is in the dark when it comes to Christ. Never think that just because you’re not doing anything the real enemy is doing nothing as well. He is never idle; he roams around like a roaring lion. He is preparing and attacking; we should prepare and attack as well. I often wonder how many angels are waiting our command and they are just standing there, waiting. I said in my last post I had been slacking off and I have picked up momentum, nothing to brag about but my day is filled with prayers and petitions. I try to keep my angels active. It is said in the Bible there is more for us than against us, let’s use this resource every day, every hour, every, minute, every second. It is so important; but this post isn’t about prayer either.
A Christian should first be aware that there is a battle and a war that goes on in the heavenly realm, it is unseen and the Bible addresses this by saying ‘believe in the things unseen’; which is having faith. Know that our enemy is powerful and persuasive; he is also a deceiver and a destroyer. We have no need to fear him because ‘He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world’. By Jesus’ name all dark powers have to flee. Ephesians 6:12, 13 reads “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” There are a few things I want to point out in these verses; first, it clearly states where our war is and it is not with people or nations but against dark forces which affects people and nations. The second point, that could easily be skipped over is that it is an evil day, singular. We are trapped by time but time cannot hold God, it is but a single day I cannot answer how but take it as a leap of faith. The last two words at the end “to stand’ have always thrown me off but after reading several translations I have found the answer, simply it means that you’re not wounded or killed. You get to stand firmly in that same place having lost no ground, after the battle! What a promise!
If you truly desire full victory in these battles and wars we are to be armed; you cannot win naked and vulnerable in this fight. You also have to be prepared, meaning before the battle. Here is what the Bible tells us to do, we are to stand firm with the belt of truth tightened around our waist. The belt of truth is Jesus Christ; he is the way, the truth, and the life. We are to protect our hearts with the breastplate of righteousness, which we can only gain righteousness by believing that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, he willingly came to Earth, he choose to die for all our sins, and he rose from the dead and is seated with the Father in Heaven interceding for us again. We could never be righteous without his blood covering us; and the ‘rules’ laid out in both testaments are for our own good; to protect our hearts. Next, our feet should be firm footed with the gospel of peace; this means that we should not worry or grumble, good times are coming I can hear them. We have promise after promise in the Bible and one in particular says that everything works together for our good (Romans 8:28). Your having an awful time in life right now; claim this promise right now don’t read on, claim it and keep claiming it until it blossoms. Look up Isaiah 52:7.
Next, we have the shield of faith we should be wielding; for a visual, this shield is so huge it should cover you and the two people on both sides of you; that’s how powerful faith is. The Bible goes on to say that it is a shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked one. (amplified text) Take it literally, this shield must have water on it to extinguish flaming missiles, it doesn’t just block them. Then, you have the word saving, without faith you can’t be saved. People watch people and if you’re a Christian, you really get watched and people want what you have you’re a light in this dark world, your faith saves. Look at the story of the lame man pulled through the roof of a crowded place to Jesus to get healed. Those four men’s faith saved the lame man. Mark 2:5 says “When Jesus saw their (the four men) faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Just wow. We need faith in this world, big faith not small faith; faith takes boldness. If you don’t pray to God your faith will be small, he chose man to do his work that is why we are an image of God, and that’s one reason we need to pray all prayers, petitions, and praises.
Paul mentions next the helmet of salvation; this protects another important part of the body, your brain. Some people I wonder if they walk around brain dead, in my head I think “What are you doing?” I’m sure some people have thought the same about me. In seriousness though, if your head isn’t protected you will go down instantly and severely. We have important information about our enemy, one is he has flaming missiles and arrows. I certainly do not want flaming anything near my head. I said earlier that Satan and his army are liars, put on your helmet so those lies cannot creep in and choke you out of your promises. If you don’t believe God’s promises he cannot bless you, it takes faith and the devil wants to steal your faith. He says “you’re never going to get better you’ve had this for twenty years”. Tell him “By His stripes I am healed.” Be firm, be bold, and then say in Jesus name leave. Salvation can only be asked for, not one person can earn it. The Bible tells us that our good deeds are like dirty rags to Him; he doesn’t care about it, unless you have the right attitude which comes from Him.
Last we have the sword of the Spirit; which is the Word of God. So this is a hefty part of the verse, I am going to break it down, let’s start with the “Word of God” part. The Word of God I believe is two things. First, it is the actual God breathed Bible; we should be versed in it, not stumbling and stuttering but have it written on our hearts. Second, I believe it is also Jesus Christ because John 1:1-2 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” I suppose that if one is well versed in the Bible but without Christ his sword would be ineffective because you need both. Next, why Spirit is capitalized? In the Amplified text it reads like this, “and the sword that the Spirit wields”. The Spirit I believe it is talking about is the Holy Spirit or if you prefer the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit is what I believe our churches are craving for these days and so often he is stifled and grieved. The Holy Spirit is what fell on the Upper Room, if you are unfamiliar. The Spirit helps open our spiritual eyes to understand what we are reading in our Bible, and help us with parallels. I watch and listen to a lot of church and one thing in particular that was said by Joseph Prince was the Old Testament is a love letter written personally to you from God. I have been reading in the Old Testament especially Genesis and I have to agree with him now that my eyes and ears are open. All I see is God’s love for a fallen me, Jamie. I said earlier you can be well versed in Bible but without Christ’s grace and the Holy Spirit it will fall upon deaf ears. If they have ears let them hear. Last thing about this tiny verse is why it is called the sword and that is because the Bible says in Hebrews 4:12 “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit; joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
We are Christian soldiers and the cross has already won the war. There are physical fights are struggles here on Earth, there is no denying that but the weight of that can be cast to the victorious cross. God only uses the humble things, weak things, the forgotten things; I was shown recently during worship service that a few humble servants, as little as one is more useful than three hundred million proud and overly confident people. “Think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many of you were influential; not many of you were of noble birth. But God choose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God choose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God choose the lowly things of this world and the despised things and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are so that no one may boast before Him.” 1st Corinthians 1:26-29.
